Easy Olive Oil and Herb Bread for Beginners
Share
Olive oil bread is the right bread to start with if you've never baked before. The oil makes the dough forgiving, the bread stays moist, and the herbs mean the result smells and tastes like something intentional even if the shape isn't perfect.
Ingredients
3 cups bread flour or all-purpose flour · 2 1/4 tsp active dry yeast · 1 cup warm water · 1/4 cup Boutique Olive Grove EVOO · 1 tsp salt · 1 tsp sugar · 1 tbsp fresh or dried herbs (rosemary, thyme, and oregano work well).
Method
1. Dissolve sugar in warm water. Add yeast and stand 5-10 minutes until frothy. 2. Combine flour, salt, and herbs in a bowl. Add the yeast mixture and EVOO. Mix until a dough forms. 3. Knead on a floured surface for 10 minutes until smooth and elastic. 4. Place in a lightly oiled bowl, cover, and allow to rise in a warm spot for 1 hour until doubled. 5. Punch down the dough, shape into a loaf, and place on a lined baking tray. Cover and rise again for 30 minutes. 6. Bake at 190°C for 25-30 minutes until golden and hollow-sounding when tapped. Cool on a wire rack before slicing.
Serving
With EVOO and balsamic vinegar for dipping. As bruschetta. Alongside soups and stews. As a sandwich base.
