The Health Benefits of Black Mission Olives

Black Mission olives — the cultivar we grow on the estate — are one of the most nutritionally dense foods you can add to a salad, a charcuterie board, or simply a small bowl on a table.

Nutritional Profile

Black Mission olives are a good source of iron, vitamin E, calcium, and potassium. They are rich in monounsaturated fats, particularly oleic acid — the same heart-healthy fat found in our cold-pressed olive oil. Their caloric content is moderate, which makes them a sensible snack for those watching their intake.

Heart Health

Oleic acid has been linked to reduced inflammation, improved cholesterol balance (increased HDL, decreased LDL), and lower risk of cardiovascular disease. The polyphenols in Mission olives work in concert with the oleic acid to protect against oxidative damage to artery walls.

Antioxidant Properties

Vitamin E, flavonoids, and phenolic compounds in black olives help combat free radicals in the body — linked to ageing, cancer risk, and neurodegenerative conditions. A diet rich in polyphenol-containing foods, including olives and quality olive oil, is associated with reduced risk of chronic disease.

Digestive Health

Olives contain dietary fibre, which supports gut health, regular bowel function, and a healthy microbiome. The fibre in olives also promotes satiety, helping manage overall caloric intake.

How to Use Them

Sliced into green salads. Whole in grain bowls. Roughly chopped into a creamy olive vinaigrette. On a cheese board with feta and our estate EVOO. Or simply, as they are, with bread.
